This week I'm wearing Milani's 3D Holographic Nail Lacquer in the color "Digital."

This polish has a Jelly-like formula, but it gives pretty good coverage.  The finish is also really Smooth and Shiny.  This is 2 coats with a Top Coat.

Gwyneth Paltrow at the 2012 Oscars

(Photo Source) Gwyneth Paltrow at the 2012 Oscars

Gwyneth Paltrow showed up at the 84th Annual Academy Awards wearing this White Tom Ford Cape Dress.

Opinions on this look seem to be completely split down the middle.  Either people really love it, or absolutely hate it. Personally.......................... I LOVE this look!

The dress is classy and elegant.  Her minimal makeup and sleek hairstyle also add to the"regal" feel of this dress.

Kelly Rowland's Orange Makeup

(Source) Kelly Rowland at the Black Women in Music Essence Event

I saw this picture of Kelly Rowland floating around the internet, and immediately started thinking about how I could re-create this look.  If you've been keeping up with this blog, then you already know that I've been pretty Obsessed with Orange makeup lately (lol).

I think this look is a nearly perfect example of how to wear bright Orange makeup the RIGHT way.

To re-create this look, I would use.........
Blush:
I think Makeup Forever's Bright Orange Blush Powder in #18 is the PERFECT color for this look.  The color is extremely Opaque and Pigmented so I use a Big, Fluffy Blush Brush (that doesn't really pick up a lot of product) so that I get a sheer wash of color on my cheeks.

For drugstore options, either Milani's Mineral Blush in "Sunset Beach" or Hard Candy's Fox in a Box Blush in "Skinny Dipping" would be good options.  The Milani Blush doesn't look Orange in the pan, but it shows up as a true, sheer Orange on my skin tone.  Hard Candy's "Skinny Dipping" looks a bit scary in the packaging, but it actually looks more like a Coral/Pink shade on my cheeks.

Lips:
To get Kelly's sheer Orange/Coral lip color I would use Revlon's Lip Butter in "Tutti Frutti." It's a true Orange shade that's great for everyday wear because it goes on really Sheer and Glossy.

But if "Tutti Frutti" is still out of your comfort zone (even though it's sheer)............. MAC's Tenderton in "Purring" and L'oreal's Le Balm in "Caring Coral" are great options for a sheer Orange/Coral lip.

For those of you who are more daring, Milani makes a great Orange lipstick called "Mandarina." This color is extremely Opaque and has a Matte finish, so if you want shine just add a clear lip gloss over it.

Eyes:
I don't have a lot of Orange eyeshadows because I RARELY wear color on my eyes, so to get this look I would use Maybelline's Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in "Fierce and Tangy" on the inner half of my lids, then I would lightly dust a bit of the Orange Makeup Forever Blush (from up top) in the crease area.

Milani Illuminating Face Powder in Amber Nectar

Milani recently released a line of 3 Illuminating Face Powders for their Spring 2012 collection.  These multi-purpose powders come in 3 shades, Beauty's Touch (pink), Amber Nectar (coral), and Hermosa Rose (peach), and can be used as a Highlighter, Bronzer, or Blush.  The different colors of the rose pattern combine to form a slightly shimmery, soft shade.

I decided to pick up "Amber Nectar" because I figured it would look the best on my skin tone.

Milani Illuminating Face Powder in "Amber Nectar"

Milani describes "Amber Nectar" as a Coral shade, but it looks more like a light Golden/Bronze color on my skin.   I use this as a highlighter for my upper cheekbones, and brow bones.  The application is really smooth, and I never have a problem with it being chalky.  The color is also VERY pigmented, so it would work well as a Blush or Bronzer for those of you with lighter skin tones.

Overall:  I really like this. The powder applies nicely, and it has great lasting power

NOTW: Revlon "Mysterious"

This week I'm wearing Revlon Nail Enamel in the color "Mysterious" from their permanent collection.

Revlon Nail Enamel in "Mysterious"

"Mysterious" is a deep Royal Blue nail color with VERY fine shimmers, which gives this polish a Reflective Shine.

Revlon Nail Enamel in "Mysterious" (Macro shot)

The formula is Opaque with one coat, and goes on Smooth and Even.  I would definitely suggest wearing a Base Coat underneath this polish because it will definitely stain your nails.  This is 2 coats and a Top Coat.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Coral Crush + MAC Purring Tendertone

Happy Valentine's Day!

I bought Maybelline's Color Sensational Lipstick in "Coral Crush" a few weeks ago when I was on my Orange/Coral kick, and I've been wearing it almost everyday paired with MAC's "Purring" Tendertone.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in "Coral Crush" and MAC Tendertone in "Purring"

"Coral Crush" is a very Bright, Corally/Pink shade.  The formula isn't drying, and the lipstick applies evenly.  It does have a nice Sheen/Glossy finish, but I wouldn't say it's moisturizing.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in "Coral Crush"

I was originally going to pair it with my Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in "Coral Reef" because the colors are really similar, but I decided to pair it with MAC's "Purring" Tendertone instead (from the MAC Shop/Cook Collection) because I like it's lightweight, gel consistency.

 MAC Tendertone in "Purring"

"Purring" is a Limited Edition Tangerine Orange Tendertone.  It applies VERY sheer, and doesn't really give any color pay off on my lips. However, it looks amazing with "Coral Crush", and provides moisture like a lip balm.

7 Deadly Sins of Beauty Tag

I spotted this Tag on Youtube a few weeks ago, and thought it was really fun.

Tag Questions:

1.  GREED:  What is your most inexpensive beauty item?  What is your most expensive.
  • My most Inexpensive beauty item is a Wet n Wild Lipstick in the color C901B, which is a warm, light pink shade that I got from Walgreens for only $1.99.  The formula is drying, but the color is really nice. I wore it all last summer.
  • I don't really own a lot of Expensive beauty items. The most expensive thing I can think of is my Lola by Marc Jacobs perfume. I got this a LONG time ago, when it first came out, for a little over $50 at Sephora.
2.  WRATH:  What products do you have a love/hate relationship with?  What product has been the hardest to get?
  • I have a love/hate relationship with ORS Olive Oil Edge Control.  I ONLY use this when I'm trying to stretch a relaxer, and I have a lot of new growth.  It does the job, but leaves A LOT of product buildup even if I only use a small amount.  I have to wash my hair every other day when I use this.
  • I don't have that many limited edition or exclusive products that were hard to get.  The hardest thing to get my hands on has been my Revlon Nail Enamel in Facets of Fuchsia.  It was part of a limited edition collection of Glitter polishes from Revlon, and was really popular on beauty and fashion blogs.  It was sold out almost everywhere, but I finally found one at Target.
3.  GLUTTONY:  What are your most delicious beauty products?
  • My most delicious beauty products are my Philosophy Bubbly Lip Shine and my Stila Lip Glaze in Mocha.  Philosophy's Bubbly tastes like sweet, sparkling Champagne, and Mocha tastes like Hot Chocolate.
4.  SLOTH:  What beauty product do you neglect, due to laziness?
  • I always neglect my MAC studio finish concealer (Honestly, lately I've been neglecting any kind of foundation and face powders also).
5.  PRIDE:  What beauty product gives you the most self confidence?
  • Eyeliner.  I ALWAYS have to wear eyeliner unless I'll look like a mess (in my opinion, lol).  Lately I've been wearing Rimmel's Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer in Noir.
6.  LUST:  What attributes do you find most attractive in the opposite sex?
  • What does this have to do with makeup or beauty?
7.  ENVY:  What items would you most like to receive as a gift?
  • I would like to receive any kind of sweet/gourmande perfume.  (i.e. Theirry Mugler's Angel or Prada's Candy)

NOTW: L'oreal Colour Riche Nail Color in "Tangerine Crush"

This week I'm wearing "Tangerine Crush" from L'oreal's Colour Riche Nail Color Line.

L'oreal Colour Riche Nail Color in "Tangerine Crush"

"Tangerine Crush" is a Bright Coral nail color.  It's basically an Orange shade, with Pink undertones.

L'oreal Colour Riche Nail Color in "Tangerine Crush" (Macro shot)

The formula is a Creme with a glossy finish.  It goes on really thin and is a a bit runny.  However, I didn't find it hard to work with at all, and drying time was quick.  This is 2 coats and a top coat.

Birthday Beauty Haul

Last week, I celebrated my Birthday (February 2nd) so I decided to pick up a FEW things that I've been wanting to try.

Birthday Beauty Haul

Sonia Kashuk 5 piece Brush Set (Target).  I really only needed a new Blush Brush, but this set was a good deal, and the handles are really cute. lol

Fresh Sugar Plum Glam and Glo (Sephora).  I'm obsessed with lip balms, and I've always wanted to try the tinted balms from Fresh. The lip balm is about $22 on it's own, so I just paid a few more dollars and got this little gift set..................  I've already been using it, and I LOVE everything (this may be a bad thing... lol)

Makeup Forever Blush Powder in "18" (Sephora).  This is a really Bright Orange Blush.  The color goes on like a true Orange on my skin....  It does NOT look coral or peach, it's a straight Orange, but it looks Great!

L'oreal Nail Color in "Tangerine Crush" (Walmart).  This is an Orange nail color with Pink undertones (Basically....... it's Coral).

Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Color in "Coral Crush" (Walmart). I bought this to pair with my Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Coral Reef.

I think I'm ready for Spring Now!

Products I've Used Up

This year, like many others, I have decided to try to use up the products I already have before I go out and buy new ones.

So I figured that collecting my "empties" at the end of each month will give me an extra incentive to "shop my stash" instead of constantly buying products.

These are the products that I used up last month:

Freeman Feeling Beautiful Pineapple Enzyme Mask. I use this facial mask the most, so I will definitely be repurchasing it.  I usually order it from drugstore.com because I can't ever find it at my local CVS or Walgreens

Victoria's Secret Pink Lovely and True Body Lotion. I stayed away from these for a long time because they seem to be marketed to younger customers and college students, but they actually work REALLY well.  The consistency is thick and creamy and it provides long lasting moisture.

Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Cleansing Pads. These worked great for my skin, but I'm not sure that I'll repurchase them right away........... but that's only because I like to try out new products.

Fresh Strawberry Flowers eau de parfum. This is one of my favorite scents. I've already repurchased it.

StrVectin SD Intensive Concentrate for Stretch Marks and Wrinkles. I received a sample of this from Sephora a few months ago to use on stretch marks................... It didn't work, so I'm definitely NOT going to purchase a full size because it costs about $80-$100. I do want to try another sample size, and use it on a more consistent basis though.

YSL Parisienne eau de parfum sample. I love this, and I'm going to purchase the full size this Spring.

Elf Facial Mist and Set. I've blogged about this before. Already repurchased.

Smashbox Fusion Soft Lights in Baked Starburst.  I used this to highlight my upper cheekbones and down the bridge of my nose. It's probably the best highlighter I've ever used.

MAC powder blush in Raizin. Already repurchased. I will ALWAYS have one of these in my makeup collection.

MAC powder blush in Format. I used this as a blush and highlighter. I will likely repurchase this over the Smashbox Fushion because it's cheaper, and I can use it in multiple ways.

Carmex Moisture Plus Lip Moisturizer.  I liked this, but it does not have much product in it so I'll probably just stick to the regular Carmex lip balms.

Hard Candy Fox in a Box Bronzing Duo in Skinny Dipping

A few weeks ago I finally picked up a Hard Candy Fox in a Box Bronzing Duo from Walmart. I decided to purchase "Skinny Dipping" because I've been REALLY into Orange blushes lately, which (surprisingly) seems to be a pretty universally flattering color.

The packaging is cute, and VERY similar, almost identical, to Benefit's boxed blushes.

Hard Candy Fox in a Box Bronzing Duo in "Skinny Dipping"

It comes with a little brush, which........................... is cute, but not functional.  It's not dense enough to pick up the product well, and the bristles are scratchy.

Hard Candy Fox in a Box Bronzing Duo in "Skinny Dipping"

Hard Candy Fox in a Box Bronzing Duo in "Skinny Dipping"

"Skinny Dipping" contains a Bright Orange shade along with a Light Brown bronzer.  You can use these two shades as either a Blush and Bronzer OR a Blush and Contour.  Personally, I ONLY use the Orange shade because the Brown looks horrible on my complexion regardless of how I wear it.  I know a lot of people mix the two shades together, but that still doesn't work for me.

However, I absolutely LOVE the Orange shade.  The pigmentation and formula are both nice. The color blends well, and never looks chalky on my skin.  And although the color is VERY Bold in the packaging, it actually looks like a warm Coral/Orange shade on my cheeks.

Overall, I really like "Skinny Dipping" (lol)...... It has definitely become one of my go to blushes because the color is so wearable.
