Battle of the Pink Lip Balms Vol. 1

In case you guys haven't already noticed, I LUV to wear Sheer light pink colors on my lips! So it should come as no surprise that I have a TON of light pink lip balms.

My lips tend to get really dry, so I'm always looking for a good balm to keep them moisturized, ESPECIALLY during the Fall and Winter seasons.

I've tried SO many different lip balms and I've found some that I REALLY like, but I've also found some that I definitely won't be repurchasing.

Today I decided to compare Carmex Moisture Plus in Sheer Pink vs. Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm in the color Healthy Blush.

Carmex Moisture Plus is one of my absolute FAVORITE lip balms ever!  It's enriched with Vitamin E, and Aloe and contains SPF 15 to help protect the lips from the sun.  This is probably the most moisturizing lip balm I own, and it's not sticky at all.  Its slant tip applicator helps the product go on evenly, and it leaves my lips feeling nourished.  It has a really pretty sheer pink tint that can be built up to give more intense color.  This balm leaves my lips feeling smooth, and it has that classic Carmex cooling sensation on the lips.

Cons: This product only lasts about about 2 hours on my lips before I need to reapply. I also noticed that there isn't a lot of product in the tube, so I run through these pretty quickly.

Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm is supposed to make lips "softer, rosier, and healthier-looking." It has an exclusive ion2complex which promises to moisturize lips instantly, leaving them fuller and more defined.  This balm goes on my lips really smooth, and buttery. It's really moisturizing and not sticky. I picked up the color Healthy Blush which is a really pretty pink shade, and it smells like a red Starburst candy!

Cons: The shape of the tube makes it hard to put the balm on my lips evenly because it's so wide and rectangular.  And although the color of this balm is great, it only lasts on my lips for LESS than an hour before I have to reapply, which is sad because it's a really great balm.  For $7.00 I would definitely expect a lip balm to last A LOT longer.

Overall: I DEFINITELY prefer the Carmex Moisture Plus over Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm because I find that the Carmex is MORE moisturizing on my lips, it lasts longer, and it's less expensive.

Blaze Color Changing Nail Polish

Ok, these totally caught my attention as soon as I saw them. Blaze Nail Lacquer makes Color Changing Nail Polish!

Kind of like those old school mood rings right?!

Blaze uses Solar Active Technology to create the dramatic color changes.  These polishes are great for taking your look from Day to Night instantly.  Some of the color transformations are amazing.  I particularly like the Sparklelicious to Red Hot Mama combo from their Glitz on Madison collection, which takes you from a light sandy/gold shimmer to a really deep berry shade.

NOTD: Essie Case Study

Today, I decided to put away all the glitters and shimmers, and go for a really neutral color on my nails, so I decided to break out my Essie Nail Polish in the color "Case Study" from their Fall 2011 collection.

I LUV this color! It's the perfect tan with yellow undertones. I think a lot of different skin tones would be able to pull off this color because it's so neutral. And it's a great color to wear to work or other professional settings when you want to wear something BESIDES a french manicure.

The formula of this polish is also GREAT! It glides on streak free and is very opaque. And I always get AT LEAST 3 days of wear with this polish without chipping .

This look was achieved with only 2 light coats.

Review: Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters

So I recently stopped by my local CVS, and of course, I ended up in the makeup aisle! And I'm glad I did, because I was surprised to see that Revlon came out with a new line of Lip Butters! Revlon's Colorburst Lip Butters are an extension of their already popular ColorBurst lipstick line, and I absolutely love them!

These lip butters come in about 20 different shades, and they are enriched with shea butter, mango butter, coconut oil, and jojoba seed oil.

I picked up the color Lollipop which is a really beautiful, hot-pink/fuchsia color.  I love the way this lip butter feels on my lips! It goes on soft and smooth, and it is VERY Moisturizing. The the color is also REALLY pigmented. When I saw that these were lip butters, I was expecting very sheer color, but I was surprised to see how Vibrant this color was when I  put it on my lips! The color looked Amazing!

I got about 3 hours of wear out of this lip butter, and it faded into a pink stain on my lips instead of just disappearing.  I would definitely say these lip butters are comparable to Chanel's Rouge Coco LipShine, and I've also seen them compared to the Dior Addict Lipstick line!

I really can't wait to head back to CVS to pick up more colors!

Have you tried any of these Lip Butters yet? Which one?

Friday Favorites!

Wet n Wild Color Icon  Eyeshadow Palettes in Vanity and Greed

I didn't really have a lot of new favorites this week. I've pretty much been using the same products as I did Last Week, but I've been LOVING my Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Palettes!  Wet n Wild has definitely stepped things up over the years, and is proof that you don't need to spend a lot of money to get great products

These eyeshadows are available in 4 different Palettes; Vanity, Greed, Lust, and Pride.  They all contain 3 Matte shades, and 3 Shimmer effect shades that can be mixed and matched to create different day to night looks.  These shadows are VERY pigmented, and comparable to higher-end eyeshadow brands.  They are very soft and buttery which makes blending a breeze.  And unlike a lot of cheaper eyeshadows, these are not at all chalky or dry.

I picked up the palettes in the colors Vanity and Greed.

The Vanity Palette is by far, one of my most reached for palettes ever, and it's one of Wet n Wild's most talked about products.  Vanity is filled with beautiful brown and gold tones that are perfect for creating everyday natural looks. My Favorite thing about this palette is the Matte Dark Brown shade. This Brown is absolutely the best Brown I have ever used! It's really close to my skin tone, with a little more yellow undertones, so I like to use it as a Contour Powder.

The Greed Palette is equally as pigmented, and has a more coral and blue color scheme.  This is the ultimate night time eyeshadow palette.  The colors are perfect for creating the Kim Kardasian, Dark Smokey Eye look.  The Black in this palette is really Velvety and pigmented, and the Coral color is a great all over the lid shade.

If you can find these palettes, I recommend that you pick them up because Wet n Wild announced via twitter, that they will be discontinuing these 6 pan palettes in June 2012. So get them while you can!

Get The Look: Beyonce "Party" Video

Yesterday, Beyonce dropped her long awaited music video for "Party" ft. J.Cole, and it is full of Retro Glam! Beyonce, who shot the video in August right before announcing her pregnancy, is seen rocking lots of bold makeup looks throughout the video.

This video has many inspiring looks, from the pale lavender lip at the end, to her vibrant purple and blue eye shadow, but my favorite is definitely her Hot Pink Lipstick.

The color is GORGEOUS, and seems to have an almost iridescent shine. There are TONS of Hot Pink lip colors you can use to achieve this look. I think Maybelline's Fuchsia Fever is Perfect!

NOTD: Rimmel London's Lasting Finish Pro Nail Polish

Today I chose Rimmel London's Lasting Finish Pro Nail Polish in the color Rags to Riches.  In case you guys haven't already figured it out, I love these polishes.  The wide angled brush makes this polish really easy to put on, and they always give great color payoff.

I usually stay away from Green polishes because I find them kind of hard to pull off for work, but I thought this Green was perfect. It's a Cool-Tone Green with just the right amount of Gold and Silver shimmer to add Shine! The color is very opaque, and I achieved this look with only 2 medium coats.

These polishes retail for around $4.49 and are sold at mass retailers.

Review: Stila Lip Glaze and Elf Dupe

Stila's Most Popular lip gloss is their Lip Glaze which comes in a wide variety of colors, and sweet flavors and scents to match every shade.  These glosses add a sheer punch of color to the lips, and are enriched with Sunflower Oil and Lanolin Oil to provide moisture.

I decided to pick up this Lip Glaze in the color Mocha from their Summer 2011 sorbet-inspired collection.  Stila describes this color as a Sheer Plum/Brown, but it looks more like a Peachy/Pink color on my lips.  I love this color, and I think it's great for an everyday look for work or school.  The gloss does go on sheer, but it can be built up to provide a more pigmented color.

Cons: I do find that this gloss lasts a long time on my lips, but that's probably because it's so STICKY. This is probably one of the most GOOEY lip glosses I've ever used, and it makes a mess in the tube. So if you don't like sticky glosses, this is definitely NOT for you.  This gloss also has a strong Coffee/Mocha scent that lingers as long as you have it on.  I personally don't mind the scent, but if you're sensitive to smells, it may annoy you.

This gloss can still be purchased at Sephora for $22.00, but if you're looking for a more budget-friendly option, Elf's Hypershine Gloss in the Color Berry Cherry is a great DUPE, and it's only $1.00.

Elf's Hypershine Gloss is infused infused with micro-mirror technology to reflect light. The color Berry Cherry looks like a Peachy/Pink shade on my lips, and is VERY similar to Stila's Mocha.  The Hypershine Gloss has good lasting power, and is NOT sticky.

Cons: This gloss does contain some Parabens and Mineral Oil, and it smells like Cherries, which I personally don't like.

Get the Look: Rihanna's Dark Red Lipstick

Recently, the internet has been going CRAZY over Rihanna's latest music video for her song "We Found Love." Say what you want about the song, but the video was very well done and she looked AMAZING!

Makeup tutorials on the singer's Bold Red Lips have been popping up EVERYWHERE! And luckily for us, the look is really easy to achieve.

Rihanna used  neutral colors on her eyes and kept everything else fairly natural looking,  focusing all the attention on her Red Lips! The Red Lipstick she used is not your traditional Bright Red, but instead she went for a Darker Matte, Plum/Red color which, in my opinion, makes this look more wearable for the Fall Season!

To get a look similar to this, you can use Revelon's Super Lustrous Lipstick Cream in the color Black Cherry.

LOTD: Rimmel London's Stay Glossy Lip Gloss

For today's lip of the day, I decided to go with Rimmel London's Stay Glossy Lip Gloss in the color Yours Forever. This is a dark, plum/red color and is perfect for the season.  These glosses come in 24 shades, and have a special "Shine Technology" which contains Silk and Natural Cotton that help moisturize the lips.  This is supposed to be a long lasting lip gloss, and promises up to six hours of shine. The color goes on sheer, but can be built up to give medium pigmentation.

While the color is gorgeous, and the gloss is moisturizing, it does not stay on my lips 6 hours.  The formula is really thin and lightweight, but only lasts for about 2 hours AT MOST on my lips.

If you're looking for a non-sticky gloss, and don't mind reapplying throughout the day, this gloss is a good pick.  They come in a wide variety of colors that range from Nude to a really bold Black shade so I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding a color you like.

I'll probably repurchase this gloss because it's budget friendly, and gives great color payoff.

Review: Project Runway Colors Take Flight Collection by L'Oreal

My local Walgreens FINALLY got the Project Runway Colors Take Flight Collection by L'Oreal! (about a month after it's release lol). I know that Ulta made this collection available online a while back, but I decided to pass on that and just wait for it to pop up at my local drugstores.

For those of you who watch Project Runway, I'm sure you are familiar with Collier Strong, who has been featured on the show many times, and is a L'Oreal celebrity makeup artists.  This collection, desingned by Collier, was inspired by Birds and feature names such as, Charming Cockatoo, Watchful Owl, Audacious Amazon, and Sultry Raven.

I decided to pick up the Charming Cockatoo Blush, Owl's Night Nail Polish, and Sultry Raven's Pout Lipstick.

The Owl's Night Nail Polish is Gorgeous! I absolutely LOVE the color, and it's nothing like anything I have in my nail polish collection. I would describe the color as having a forest green base with gold shimmers! The formula is also really nice. It goes on thin and has a small brush which helps with precision, and it also drys fairly quick. I achieved this look with 2 medium coats.

Owl's Night Nail Polish

I also like the Sultry Raven's Pout Lipstick. This lipstick is a really nice Nude/Pink color which compliments a Smokey Eye perfectly! I do like this lipstick, but I wouldn't say it's a Must-Have. For those of you with light skin tones who are looking for a nude shade, this color would be perfect for you. On my skin tone this color is just a really pretty light pink shade. This color goes on Matte, and is not moisturizing at all, so I always apply lip balm underneath to prevent my lips from looking dry and chapped.

Sultry Raven's Pout Lipstick

I also picked up a blush in the color Charming Cockatoo. I definitely thought it looked a lot darker in the package than it did on my skin. I don't like this color for my skin tone at all. I also felt like it went on chalky which made it difficult to blend. The color is REALLY light, but I'm sure those of you with lighter skin tones could pull it off.  I'll probably be returning this one.
